Deesweetdrug X Ajarn Noo Kanpai
Many people probably already know Dee Sweetdrug or Channalong Krugoied, applied artist who constantly outdoes himself and produces exceptional art projects. His past works include applied art pieces made in cooperation with famous brands and leading shopping centers. In the past 15 years, he’s created applied art and exhibited fine art pieces nationally and internationally, including at The National Exhibition of Art, Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artists, Agora Art Residency in Vienna of Austria, Solo Exhibition, and Group Exhibition with innumerable top-class artists. He is considered to be one of the most interesting artists in this day and age.
Dee Sweetdrug’s works are outstanding for his unique style, details, and colors that reflect joy, fun, and cheerfulness. They suit the artist’s character as they always give audiences happiness and put smiles on their faces. The artist also steps out of the box into fresh ideas, bringing Thai cultural charms to the context of contemporary art via several techniques, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, and installation art, to convey his stories with borderless imagination. His works often “wow” audiences as he never stops improving and likes to surprise people with unconventional, unexpected presentations with ever-changing forms and stories. Most recently, he presented Deesweetdrug X Ajarn Noo Kanpai, highlight-of-the-year project which promotes Thailand’s soft power from the perspective of a contemporary artist on the international level.
Deesweetdrug X Ajarn Noo Kanpai project is the first time Dee Sweetdrug teams up with Ajarn Noo Kanpai, world-renowned artist/master of yantra tattooing and sacred objects. Ajarn Noo has made Thai belief well-known by putting yantra tattoos on Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Hollywood stars, and celebrities around the globe. Most importantly, Ajarn Noo Kanpai in this project will come in a new look, cool and modern unlike before. It’s a big upgrade that will totally wash away his previous image as a sorcerer.
This project’s inspired by the stories and magic of art on yantra cloths, which have been a part of Thai lifestyle since ancient times. Dee Sweetdrug takes popular yantra cloth patterns, including Ajarn Noo Kanpai’s signature five-row yantra, and recreates them in the form of unique contemporary art under Ajarn Noo’s close supervision. All the pieces have been consecrated by Ajarn Noo Kanpai and they are presented as a series of digital prints with four contemporary designs.

Synod Kwad pattern is inspired by Synod Kwad Crocodile yantra cloth known to enhance owner’s popularity. It is believed to bring wealth to merchants since crocodile is a symbol of strength and longevity. Moreover, the reptile has a long tail that sweeps left and right. People take it as a metaphor for the ability to sweep fortune to the yantra owner. The pattern includes auspicious Chinese character 囍, which means double happiness.

The Toad pattern tells the story of The Toad yantra known for protection against weaponry and enrichment of romance. Since ancient times, Thai people have noticed that toads are amphibians and able to attract females with the sounds they make. They are also a symbol of abundance. The pattern has the toad sat between two big squirrels. Squirrels live on treetops and never fall, so White Squirrel pattern is believed to represent conquest, achievement, happiness, fulfillment, and absence of mistakes and failures.
